BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF
JOHN A A NICHOLS
John Nichols graduated MB, ChB from Liverpool Medical School in 1967. He spent an important year with Dr Ian Watson at Shere Surgery near Guildford in Surrey. Dr Watson passed on his enthusiasm for research in the Primary Care setting. They published a joint paper on measles immunity in 1975. Since then John has done research into public awareness of health hazards, trace elements and fertility, postnatal depression, exercise on prescription, folic acid, smoking cessation, prostate cancer, GP advice on diet and cardiovascular disease, diverticulitis and probiotics. Medical journalism has been another interest with columns in a medical newspaper and the Surrey Advertiser. In 1999 he embarked on a master’s degree in Nutritional Medicine at the University of Surrey. He spent 42 years as a Guildford GP and retired in 2015. He is still involved in research as a visiting research fellow at the University of Surrey and is active as a fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
John is married with four adult children and 7 grandchildren.
